Dean Leon Anderson is a writer / director born in London. Trained on set of Top Boy by BAFTA nominated film director Yann Demange (’71), Dean has premiered work at several BAFTA and Oscar qualifying festivals, including Encounters, BlackStar, the London Short Film Festival and BFI S.O.U.L Fest among others.

Dean’s short film Jasper was nominated for various awards in 2015, including Best Narrative Short at Pan African Film Festival Los Angeles, and has screened over forty occasions wordwide, including the BFI Southbank in London.

Dean is a multi-talent, often writing, directing, producing and editing film productions. He was selected by the 2015 B3 Media Talent Lab programme to develop his short film Class 15. The film was commissioned and funded by Creative Skillset and stars Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Dune). Class 15 premiered at the Oscar qualifying Encounters Film Festival in the UK and Urbanworld Film Festival in the U.S. Dean was also selected as a Filmmaker of Focus for Encounters Film Festival in 2018.

In 2021, Dean received early-stage development funding from the BFI NETWORK for his feature-length version of Jasper. Dean is currently focusing on the development of this feature. Dean was shortlisted Best Director at the 2022 Film The House UK Awards, a British MP run event.

In 2023, Dean was selected by Film London for their New Talent Strand. A new short film called The Mediator was also completed in 2023. The film stars Daniel Portman (Game of Thrones, HBO), Cat White (Threesome, Channel 4) and Gina Bramhill (US, Sherlock, BBC)

In 2024, Dean was selected from 500 applications to take part in Momentum, which is a 6-month program to nurture filmmakers towards their debut feature. It is sponsored by Sony Pictures and Channel 4. Dean is also a member of BAFTA Connect.

He has previously directed online commercials for Netflix, Virgin, Three Mobile, Kiss FM and Comic Relief, among other brands.
